NAWBO-CALIFORNIA FACT SHEET
MISSION
NAWBO-California is an association of business leaders forging
alliances and breaking boundaries to build better businesses
by:
- linking growing businesses with the global economy
- sharing resources, skills and experience
- providing a single voice to shape economic and public
policy
HISTORY
NAWBO traces its origins to a small group of Washington, DC
business women who began meeting informally to talk about
mutual experiences, exchange information and develop business
skills. Recognizing the value of the group, they incorporated
as the National Association of Women Business Owners on December
19, 1974. NAWCO-CA began holding meetings in 1992 and is now
a formal consortium of nine NAWBO chapters throughout the
state.
MEMBERSHIP
Membership is open to sole proprietors, partners and corporate
owners with day-to-day management responsibility. Active members
automatically join both chapter and national. Some benefits
of membership include networking, educational and financial
assistance opportunities as well as annual awards and recognition
programs and direct discounts. NAWBO-California is a consortium
of nine NAWBO chapters throughout the state, representing
more than 740,000 women business owners statewide.
PROFILE OF MEMBERS
Women-owned businesses operate in every sector including manufacturing,
construction, agribusiness and retail, as well as high growth
industries such as health, business and professional services.
The National Association of Women Business Owners-CA members
own businesses throughout the state, including Desert Cities,
Inland Empire, Los Angeles, Orange County, Sacramento, San
Diego, San Francisco, Silicon Valley and Ventura.
BENEFITS

owner to reach business goals and maintain a competitive edge
through training, education, corporate connection, networking,
peer support, public policy, certification, scholarships,
