National:

  • As of 2004, there are an estimated 10.6 million privately-held, 50% or more women-owned firms in the U.S., accounting for nearly half (47.7%) of all privately-held firms in the country.
  • Privately-held, 50% or more women-owned firms in the U.S. generate $2.46 trillion in sales and employ 19.1 million people nationwide. 
  • Of the 10.6 million privately-held, 50% or more women-owned firms, 2.4 million are employer firms.
  • The 10.6 million privately-held, 50% or more women-owned firms are comprised of 6.7 million privately-held, majority (51% or more) women-owned firms and 4.0 million privately-held, equally (50-50) women- and men-owned firms.
  • These two segments account for 29.9% and 17.8% of all privately-held firms in the country.
  • Of the 10.6 million privately-held, 50% or more women-owned firms, 62.6% are majority (51% or more) women-owned firms and 37.4% are equally (50-50) women- and men-owned firms.
